Hong Kong’s visitor numbers remain on track for a 12 percent increase, with August reaching a post-Covid record high, according to the city’s tourism chief.
Meanwhile, bookings for the first year since the opening of Kai Tak Sports Park were nearly at full capacity.
Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism Rosanna Law Shuk-pui revealed the latest tourism figures on Monday at the Redefining Hong Kong conference on Culture, Sports and Tourism, hosted by the South China Morning Post.
“For August alone, we actually welcomed 5.15 million visitors, a 16 per cent growth year-on-year,” said Law, who added she was confident the city would be able to achieve its target of receiving 48 million tourists for the entire year.
August’s figure broke the post-pandemic monthly record set earlier this year in January, with 4.7 million visitors.
The latest monthly number brought the total visitors to Hong Kong in the first eight months of the year to 33 million, a 12 per cent increase compared to the same period last year, according to Law.
